Re: Car park data problems

  By: jw35 on Aug. 13, 2018, 11:01 a.m.

The County Council tell us that:

  • The sensor loops for the exit counter at Madingley Road have been damaged and they are arranging for these to be re-cut and connected up.
  • That Newmarket Road Front P&R car park uses an old radio based system ...

Re: Dead link

The perils of linking to other web sites, lt looks as if what was http://www.connectingcambridgeshire.co.uk/smartcamb/ has become https://www.connectingcambridgeshire.co.uk/smart-cambridge/. Thanks - we'll get it fixed.

Re: Possible new zones

Thanks for all the feedback. Based on that and other input our revised zone map now looks like this:

Newer zone map

Changes from the last version include:

  • Splitting Hills Road into two zones, one on either side of the train station
  • Adding Brooklands Avenue,...

At least P&R Milton does seem to be working again, having apparently been broken since at least December 2016!

Re: Possible new zones

  By: jw35 on Aug. 2, 2018, 11:04 a.m.

The answer is probably to split the existing Hills Road zone into two, one finishing (inbound) at Hills Road Bridge and one starting beyond Station Road. The second one would then be quite short - i could extend past the Catholic Church junction, ...

Re: Possible new zones

It looks like Elizabeth Way has Milton Road P&R buses traveling north on it, but the southbound buses use Victoria Avenue.

Re: Possible new zones

  By: jw35 on Aug. 1, 2018, 1:14 p.m.

Thanks.

It looks as if the open-top tour bus (for which we get popsition reports) goes north on that route, but nothing goes south.

Likewise we get a reasonable number of reports from buses traveling north on either Elizabeth Way zone, but ver...

Possible new zones

  By: jw35 on July 31, 2018, 10:01 a.m.

We are looking at revising the zones in which we monitor traffic speeds. The current zone map looks like this:

Current Zones

A possible future map looks like this:

Future Zones

We'd welcome feedback on this before we commit ourselves and deploy the changes. The logic ...

Minor improvements 2018-07-30

  By: jw35 on July 30, 2018, 10:38 a.m.

We've just deployed a few minor improvements to the SmartPanels:

  1. A work around for occasional failures in our upstream feed of weather forecasts that means we can continue to display the last good forecast we received until we get the next good ...

Re: Operational Issues Updates

  By: jw35 on July 30, 2018, 10:25 a.m.

The work around I mentioned above has now been deployed so we should not now be afected by short outages from our data provider.

Re: Operational Issues Updates

  By: jw35 on July 26, 2018, 9:30 a.m.

Thanks - that does look good. Do you have any view on how good the forecasts are (i.e. how well their predictions match reality)?

FWIW we have a work-around for the Met Office feed problem involving caching the 'last known good' API response and ...

Re: Platform details for train departures

  By: jw35 on July 24, 2018, 12:11 p.m.

Thanks for the input - I've noted this for posible future deveopment. At the very least we could probably make including platform number an option that SmartScreen managers could opt into.

Re: Combining bus stops into a single display

  By: jw35 on July 24, 2018, 12:06 p.m.

Thanks for pointing that out. It looks as if those short identifiers turn up in the NaPTAN stops database 'Indicator' field ('Bay 6', 'Stop S3', 'Stop 4', 'Stop E1', etc.) so they are at least accessible to us. Trouble is, 'Indicator' is less use...

Re: Platform details for train departures

  By: jw35 on July 23, 2018, 12:25 p.m.

I can't quite remember, but I think we do get platform information (at least for some stations and services, though not all). I think the logic for omitting it was partly to do with screen "real estate" but mainly becasue 'Smart Screens' are likel...

Re: Combining bus stops into a single display

  By: jw35 on July 23, 2018, 12:12 p.m.

It's not currently possible, but we realise it would be useful and it's certainly possible.

The major dificulty is working out how to display which stop each journey will depart from without taking up too much space. For the station it's easy bec...
